 Date Night

Posted in Click 3 - Read My Shortz by admin on the May 4th, 2010

‘Funny, the things we learn.  And even funnier the places we learn them.

It was Sunday afternoon and Buns was dragging me to the movies. (Once before when that happened, we ended up seeing Billy Crystal in City Slickers.  What was supposed to be a comedy struck me tragically and as a result I wrote Borrowed Dreams, my business/adventure book.

This time the movie was Steve Corell and Tina Fey in Date Night, topped off a week later by Jennifer Aniston and a guy not nearly as sexy as Jennifer in a movie titled Bounty Hunter.

Both movies were hilarious. But what exactly does it mean to be funny and how come sometimes when you are deep into comedy, tragedy is all you can see? I struggled with this with Borrowed Dreams which is, in spite of the unopened boxes strangling my garage, the best book I ever wrote.

While researching Borrowed Dreams I learned…

You can’t leave yourself at home.

There is such a thing as team intelligence.

Art happens when the worker and the customer connect.

Every experience shows up in this moment.

Big decisions make big people.

And, best of all, if you aren’t living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.

So I laughed away a couple of Sunday afternoons and what did I learn from Steve, Tina, Jennifer, and what’s his face?

Life is about the mistakes we’ve made.  Death is about the mistakes we didn’t get to make.

What are you going to do about it?
